A fairytale castle? A country pub? A village hall? Brides spend hours dreaming about their perfect wedding venue but how do you find it? With budgets to stick to and a seemingly endless choice of options choosing a wedding venue is no easy thing. That's why we've put together the perfect guide to make it a whole lot easier
It's all in the numbers - budget, smudgit. Whilst you might not like the fact your perfect day comes down to money - it usually does. Unless of course you are marrying royalty (in which case skip this bit!) Work out your budget and stick to it. And if you've found your dream wedding venue and it really means that much then consider changing the day - midweek, Friday, Sunday - ask your venue if they offer a discounted rate for less popular days.
Timing is everything - you've found your dream wedding venue and one quick phone call dashes your hopes - it's booked up for the next 3 years solid. Yes really, popular wedding venues get booked up years in advance. Now we're not saying have a very long engagement - just do a bit of planning. The earlier you make enquiries the better. In fact it should be the very first thing you do after you've had the engagement party.
Me, Me, Me - it's the mantra of every discerning bride - it's my day not theirs. Before your future mother-in-law gets in on the act decide what type of wedding venue would suit you and your fiancs personality - something big and fancy, something small and sweet. And remember, it's your day not theirs
One too many - the guest list - how can one small piece of paper cause so much trouble? Pinning down your guest list (and perhaps your mother) early on will make choosing a venue easier. Consider do you want that third cousin, twice removed (and who you've never met) being at the happiest day of your life.
Extras, extras, extras - most wedding venues have a basic package with extra add-ons - such as catering. What! Catering! You mean 2000 only buys me the venue with no food. And chairs are extra! Be sure to find out what's included in the basic price and what's extra early on. Set your expectations when you make your first enquiry with the venue.
The first dance - do you want to dance the night away to a jazz band, or rock to Led Zepp - whatever entertainment you dream of then make sure the wedding venue can accommodate it. Decide your entertainment before you book the venue.
